I haven't shopped at Walgreen's much lately, but I'm starting to get back into it. When I first learned about good couponing skills, I went to CVS, RiteAid and Walgreen's, all three, every week, to get the rebate deals. With two homeschooled children and other things to do, I realized pretty quickly that wasn't going to work. Walgreen's got dropped because their rebate program is more involved than RiteAid's.
However, I've recently found out that Walgreen's has started a new program called Register Rewards. If an item has a dollar amount that is called "Register Rewards" in the sale flyer, that means that when you buy that item, the register automatically prints out a coupon for that amount of money, that is good on ANYTHING in the store. It's very, very similar to CVS's "Extra Bucks" program, except that you don't have to have a card to get the deal.
Just like the Extra Bucks, you can then turn around and buy another of the same item if you like, again getting the Register Rewards money. You can also use coupons and still get the reward coupon. I recently racked up several 6-packs of Boost nutritional drink for almost nothing, plus a few extra "filler" items - there were $2 coupons for the drink in one of the in-store free magazines, so I could get the Boost plus a filler, get the reward, turn around and do it all over again.

Thanks for explaining this! I have been hearing all about CVS from friends who have taken advantage of the ECBs, and have been a bit jealous! Our Walgreen's is closeby, while the nearest CVS isn't as convenient. I've been wondering if Walgreen's has any kind of rewards program, and I'm glad to find out that they do!
They also have a monthly rebate program, which I briefly mentioned. It works like the Rite Aid program, mostly. You pick up a catalog, buy the things in it that have rebates, then mail the thing in at the end of the month. They always have a few totally free items. However, you do have to mail it in, and sometimes the individual items may require that you send in a physical UPC code (most do not) so if you miss that, you miss that rebate.
They are beta-testing an online version of the rebate program here in AL, but from what I've heard so far, it's not doing too great. So for now I'll just stick with the occasional Register Reward.
Walgreen's is my only local option, so I'm trying to get used to their rebate program. It is more involved than CVS sounds to be, but I guess beggars for free stuff can't be too much of choosers. :)
My thought is to use the rebate-giftcard to get more rebates, keeping a balance on the card and getting basically free stuff at the same time. Such fun!
I hope they start doing more register rewards! Haven't seen those here yet.
I do love those instant rebates. I was able to get 12 boxes of Kotex products when they ran this a few weeks ago. All was donated to the resuce mission where I live.
Oh, thanks for the 'heads up'! I shop weekly at Walgreen's. Now I'll know to look for these.
